Hi, replaceing me mates brakes on his vs commodore none ABS. anyway did teh rears then took the cap off master cylender to take fluid out for a brake bleed...all good....so i thorght, little that i knew was when i took the lid off i somehow disturbed the seal at teh bottom of the resivour (grommet)

    it started pissing out.

but i did not know and stgarted car and brake pedal went stright down to about half before it got harder. like aooooo much slop.

i know its cause theres ####loads of air in there. at forst i though it was the master seal split but took it off booster and its dry in that area, its the seal/grommet that seals resivurl, its not split though,

PROBLEM is no where sell it, no wreckers here have a complete unit,

seeing its no under pressure, could i use gasket sealant? none hardening?? orrrrr?

    cheers

Maybe call a few brake specialty places and ask them, they should be able to get hold of the grommets. If not, you might find some good second hand ones at a wreckers. The air in the system is nothing, just need to rebleed the brakes, start at the line thats furthest away from the master cylinder, usually the left rear wheel, then once its bled properly, go around and bleed the other side rear caliper, finish off at the front drivers side caliper. This should remove all the air in the system. Keep the master cylinder at least half full with fluid at all times whilst bleeding too.

thanks, yeah i rang holden, repco, a holden wreckers that can get hard to find parts, 3 brakes places....they all said there not avaliable seperate and need a new master

hold said the reco kit stoped makeing them in 2005, brakes joints said try holden as they cannot source them haha

pretty sure hes either getting a new one or seconhand one

either way its weired, the seals not split etc,....just cause it moved slightly sowhow its now not sealing correctly

also its normal for it to feel like the pedal wants to drop to the floor even with basically no pressure when theres air in teh master?? or is it ####ed? (when cars on)

"A common master cylinder with a 7/8" diameter bore is used on VS vehicles with standard and ABS brakes. The only difference being that the master cylinder used with ABS has a screw in blanking plug installed and tightened into the lower of the two front brake outlets in the master cylinder."

Hmmm...I've never had one leak before, and I used to take the reservoir right off to clean them properly. Are you sure it's the grommet and you haven't cracked the reservoir where it goes into the grommet?

How do you take the reservoir off? I have a leak from my master cylinder and couldn't see any fasteners that held the plastic reservoir to the alloy component. Is the reservoir just held in by a grommet (or two)?

The spiggot on the reservior has a barb on it and it pushes through the grommet. Just pull it out. It will be tight though so be careful not to break it.

I think you will find the VS M/C has a stepped bore (the quick fill) and will NOT interchange with any other holden model master cylinder.

Isn't the VT the one that uses the stepped bore "fast fill"?

No. VT is the 1" everyone retrofits with the booster.
VP/VR is usually the 15/16th's (23.81mm) M/C with the steel booster.
