ok, if i was to give youa posisitive reply vsute, id give you close to 500 rep points, then when you give someone a reply, you get the 500 i gave you, and what ever it is you have, i beleive at the moment you have 100 or something, to gain more power you need to receive more posotive remarks, it takes some time, it wont happen over night, but you will get more points the longer you are here, the more post's you make that actualy count also affects the amount of power you have on the site cheers garth
Amount of power? As in, what.. Moderaters will take your side in bitch fights, or.. you'll be looked at next when Mod selection time came up. As far as actual reputation goes: Two examples. Subject A: Rarely posts, but when he does, is always right. Subject B: Always posts, never makes sense, has high points. Even if subject B has more reputation points, his comment won't mean **** compared to subject A. Just my 2c
i think it should be mandatory for people to write something when they give feedback. i was left negative feedback for this post. i dont see any reason it should have been given bad rep points and an explanation would have been nice...
yeah i reckon the rep points should only be affected by intellegent input btw vs ute... i give ya a pos for that post cos it made me laugh and i didnt reckon ya deserved a negative so hopefully its all evened out
Agreed, if your going to rate someone's post, at least have the courtesy to write a comment. I luvs ya VSUTE and think your posts rock
Yea. I have two things on my CP, one for a tech write up which has no comment. The other is for this thread, the comment is 'nice boat' random.
G'day Guys, I just thought I'd read through this old thread and revive it after spending some time in the Admin control Panel. I'll be honest and say I've reviewed a few random people and it's disappointing to see some of the posts feedback has been awarded for, unfortunately it seems to be long time users who gave away petty rep points. Sadly alot of our most informative users have very little or no reputation. As previously stated rep points should be given for either helpful or informative posts. As an example- User A has 5 positive comments left for genuinely good posts, yet has 17 rep points. User B has 3 positive comments left by those with rep power for Off Topic and unhelpful comments and has 300+ rep points. At the moment the system isn't working, we need to stop abusing it if it's ever going to work. Jake.
yea i just looked and noticed that there has been alot of rep points removed. its a good idea cos it now shows a true reflection of people who deserve a good rep
Basically all we've done is knock Mod/Admin rep point values down to equal with regular users. Alot of these points maybe could have been 2 or 3 in value but in order to keep it simple anyone with 100pt feedback had it cut down to 1. For eg. Admin/Mod feedback was worth 100pts, it was just too easily abused and a little unfair to regular users, we're all the same here regardless of status. The amount of rep points your either add or remove from a user depends now on, the amount of posts you have made (lets hope they stay relevant), the time you have been registered and your own level of reputation points. For eg. 1000 posts= 1 extra rep point power, 1 year of membership= 1 extra point of power. Hopefully it'll make for a fresh start and provide a better reflection of our users willingness to provide helpful information, whether they've been here for 2 years or 2 days. Jake.
lol that's unfortunate but the 100pts was only one single feedback comment from a Mod or Admin. If you think about it you'll get back up there. To offset the change, all levels of reputation have been changed too. If users think- " Blah Blah Blah- Now give me some rep points" Is vaild feedback and worth 100pts, we'll gladly go back to the old system. On many forums regular users have more knowledge than those who are moderators/administrators, hence their opinion on a post being equal. Without regular users, it wouldn't be much of a 'forum'. The attachment below is just one example of many.......
Is there a way of forcing people to leave comments and/or their nick? Eg: you cannot submit your vote unless you add comment/nick. I still believe that if someone is going to go to the trouble of giving you rep points, they should leave a comment and who they are.
I totally agree but from what i can tell we can't set it up that way, maybe we'll 'try' and make it an unspoken rule until a tweak can be found/made. Alot of forums don'tr use the rep system for the reasons we're coming across. A change is hopefully better than giving it up all together. Not to mention that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when someone acknowledges your babble
Agreed entirley. Can we run through the number of points to the number of green pips again? I see both Sashyre and me are listed as 'Statesman' yet she has two and I only got one!!
Just a *bump* to let those who have not seen this yet (ie: me and other relatively new users.) Cheers
