Vs
G’day all,

The other day when I was driving I needed to brake suddenly, in traffic. My ute went out sideways, headed for the guardrails and fishtailed before I got it under control.
It’s always been a little “slidey” on gravel and dirt, but this was a bit unexpected on a tarred road and it scared the hell out of my boyfriend who’s worried I’m going to kill myself driving it one day.
Is this normal vs behaviour? I’ve only had the ute a year, and never had to hit the skids quickly in it before.
Could it be anything to do with the fact I have a five poster bullbar, possibly causing a weight imbalance?
Before I do anything I might regret, I just want to see if this is something that’s fixable or if it’s rooted.

Have a look at the brakes. One side might not be working.

Admittedly it will be quite a bit front end heavy with that bar fitted but it really shouldn't do that.

As mention above it does sound like one calliper on the rear is not functioning as it should (ceased unit) while the other is doing all the work which in turn will give you this undesired effect.

Also your tyres might be OLD and getting thin on the rear.
Check the build date on the tyres and let's know.
When they get old they get hard and lose grip even in the dry.

I had a vs wagon that ramdomly chucked itself into a full drift.

Turned out to be the inner clearances of the rear vt ss wheels on the tub being <5mm.

The tyres polishing the tub was a bit of a giveaway.

Trailing arm or panhard bushes could also be shagged.

I'm with EYY check the load sensing valve under the tray attached to the diff with a chain of its been lowered or messed with it will give too much rear brake and just lock the rears

Have had it happen before in the wet going downhill and had to put the brakes on very suddenly.
(took foot off the brakes and reapplied after getting it rolling briefly to have traction again)
Changed out the tyres as they were more the long lasting variety.
