v6 conversion??????

hey guys i got an 2002 hilux space cab 2wd i wanna do a v6 conversion but iv been told that because its an 02 model the engine that i transplant into it must be an 02 model or later does any1 no if this is true as i was told this by a less than intelligent person.... i realy wanna do an ecotec conversion use like a vs/vt motor as i dont wanna spend heaps on a vy series 2 engine... any help would b great thanx guys

i beleive that whatever engine you transplant into your vehicle, you need to meet the emmisions standards for that engine. there is an outfit that does complete kits for this kind of transplant as this is quiet a common conversion for the hilux. probably best to speak to a local engineer as this would need to be certified anyways. good luck. post some pics when it's done:thumbsup:

yeh thanx mate ill give the engineer a call tomorrow iv got it on airbags already so i wanna get the suspension an engine engineered at the same time... i used to have a 88 mazda b2000 with a vn v6 and a spooled 9" diff and i miss it so ill keep ya's posted as the progress starts

That's the rule here in NSW, the replacement engine has to be the same year as the car or newer and the polution gear as fitted to the car or newer.
A couple of years ago I transplanted a 350 chevy into a Landcruiser wagon, I had to buy an engine from a C20 Chev ute so it was the same year or newer than the Landcruiser. $$$$$$$

yeh thats wot i thought the law was down here in vic also but iv been told so many different things by so many so called "experts" none of which actually had any qualifications lol u no the old story "my mate put 253 red motor in a VX SS and there wasnt a problem gettin rego"' hahaha its hard to no the truth anyway thanx for that ill just try and get in contact with an engineer and have a word 2 em bout it
