got a fully stock ecotech (v6) apart from.. 2 1/2 inch mild steel, pacemakers extractors, twin highflow magnaflow cats (series 2 VY :( .. ),into 1 manta muffler, then into a second manta muffler. cost me 2 grand. should go well with a turbo and tune ill hopefully be getting. sounds wicked when ya rev it, sorta makes a bubbling sound after you stab it in neutral. haha its hard to describe but when you go past i think 3 or 4k rpm in 1st/2nd gear it makes a sort of flapping sound (sitting in drivers seat), must come from the cats, gives it a more lumpy sound from a distance. I noticed, wouldnt say neck breaking difference, but nevertheless, difference in performance, especially on the freeway when you slam it in 2nd (auto) to overtake the slow geeser infront.

Hey, rang around a few local places SOR in WA, looking a a 2/12 cat back with twin tip - here are the prices i was quoted.

    Shop 1 - $350
    Shop 2 - $380
    Shop 3 - $400
Shop 4 - $480 - this place quoted me 340 for exhaust and 140 for tip

I have looked at what other people have paid and im pretty sure what i got quoted is a total rip off, although id be happy to pay 350. but as for the last place ohh my god.

Has anyone got a berkley muffler, ive heard of lukey and redback just wondering what anyones recommendations are??? and if there is any decent exhaust places SOR they could recommend??

To Redgoesfaster97vs - sounds a little hexy, i was recently looking at doing what white vyII has just finished but it seemed like a bit too much work for a vu as i didn't already have the twin cat setup.

i ended up buying off "scotts rods" shop on ebey. cost me 240 delivered to central queensland and as it said, bolt off bolt on, very easy to do yourself.. originally they didn't have the setup i was after (2.5 inch with straight through centre muffler and a rear resinator) they only had the system without the rear resinator - so a straight through pipe instead. but after enquiring they made a seperate listing which included everything i wanted. Its a redback system by the way. Happy with sound too - fairly quiet with a good refined note when you give it a bit. As far as tips go i think he sells them for like 20 bucks as well, not much of range but im sure they could help you out if you ask. hope this helps

removed the rear muffler, its good but i have an exhaust note always not just under load. its not that loud either, so will probably remove the middle muffler and have a rear muffler instead.

    gday guys

got a stock 03 vy v6 and looking at the exhaust to get some more sound out of it, i know i cant do much to the power on an apprectice budget :p

ive been looking at the redback and lukey 2.5 exhaust systems on ebay, aparently a straight bolt on job, but there's no rear muffler. do i need one or is the straight pipe ok to just weld up a tip and drive away? confusing reading all the gear on here to b honest:bang:may aswell just ask the question lol

any help would b great :w00t:

hey mate, at the end of the day what you need is up to you.. i recommend reading through this forum and doing a bit of research on what differant muffler styles and resinators actually do and the video's are a great help as well. I was asking the same question only a couple of weeks ago and found the more i understood the more i was able to make a decision. Its all been said before but it will be a fair bit louder without the rear muffler or resinator and the sound you get without one depends a bit on whether you have auto or manual and you'll probably get some drone.

Each to their own though and thats only my opinion and if your not confident in your decision after some reading id go see your exhaust shop, hope that helps, cheers

Is drone nessaseraly a bad thing? or is it another 'to each there own' senario?

From what I've gathered over the years, its pretty much an ''each to their own'' senario, (like you said) if you have too much it can get very annoying over a long period of time, sitting at the same revs non stop = freeway long drives, kinda gives you a headache if its cazy loud..

But everyone has their own definition on whats a satifactory compromise of sound (engine noise) to drone, some like it very droney, while others prefer not much to no drone at all,

Personally I prefer less drone more engine noise, but on a V6 its a tricky thing to get right...

    Swapped the muffler out today.

Turns out my muffler was a Glass pack Dogleg.

The new 8x4" muffler is a tad deeper, but not as much as i was after. The note sounds alot better though.

I give up, not spending any more on the exhaust, it can sound like it does now permanently
