Hi all

Now this might seem like a stupid thread, but i know that alot of people are searching for a specific sound. The perfect exhaust note is different to everyone. Its just preference.

Months ago when i was looking for that sound i searched high and low to find what i wanted, in the end it was basically a youtube vid that helped me.

I invite anyone with a V6 to post their setup and a video or recording of the sound so that people wishing to get the same note know what to get.

Mine is a custom 2.5" catback, with glass pack muffler and rear hotdog resonator with twin 2" tips welded on. The powerhouse is an ecotec

Its a good idea which has been floating around for a while now. Biggest problem is, we need a set of standards on how to record... Even then with different equipment and encoding settings its very difficult to get an even playing felid.

However, i have uploaded a clip of my car.

Details: Holden Commodore 1993 VR V6 Manual
Exhaust: Pacemaker Extractors into 2.5" Exhaust system with rear resonator.
The clip doesnt really do it justice, as you hear too much background noise/distortion.

YouTube - Holden Commodore VR V6

This was filmed with the camera directly behind the car, about 1.5m away. In real life, its a lot deeper and you hear the idle a lot more. Not bad for a 6.

Cheers, Errol.

I agree, as a musician i believe that the only way to get a true recording is to place the microphone under the exhaust pipe. This way the air movement will not distort the note or use something to stop wind feedback. (place a sock over the mic for instance)

I placed my video at the angle shown, with the built in mic and all worked out fine. I recommend this is how its done, that way the camera will also be fairly close
Unfortunately there was a train going through at the time of the recording.

I got it done at NAR NAR GOON EXHAUSTS in Melbourne's South East

It cost me $265 + tip which i supplied.

At 4000-6000prm it sounds basically the same, but quicker and louder. Ill make you another recording if you want... Ill do it tomorrow
