Manual VS Ute
Hey guys, just got my new ute and going to be doing a much needed service for it, I was just wondering what type of oil would be ok to use with the v6 getrag gear box? Had some nulon 75w85 full synthetic (gl-4?) In an unopened bottle in the shed but not sure if it would be ok to use? Also the motor has around 300000ks so should I be using a thicker oil such as 15w60? Cheers guys

only 300k kms. that's barely run in!

Second that 20w50. mines been running that since 200k and is now at 463k (every 10k oil change).
Just keep an eye on the oil level incase it does use it a bit over time.
As a heads up, a browny colour in the coolant will mean inlet manifold gaskets, and itll possibly weep out a bit at the rear main location.

Cheers guys, can't seem to find any 20w50 full synthetic? Can only find 15w50 full synthetic, it's getting a new rear main seal, clutch and resurfaced the heads + lapped valves, she should be solid after doing all that!

Since you're having the heads skimmed, I reckon it would be worth a valve reshape if you have the heads off already.

15/40 seems to be the cheapest oil available. Autobarn have 5L of 15/40 for 10 bucks at the moment. I bought a bottle a few weeks ago and paid bit over 20 bucks for 6L. If I had my docket I would have swapped it.
