1999 WH Statesman V6 Supercharged
Two weeks ago I had the seal beneath the supercharger changed as I was told it was leaking oil into the coolant. Last week I was travelling in country NSW and came to a long slight rise on the highway and accelerated to get up the long incline when the motor revved out to 4000rpm. I took my foot off the accelerator pedal and the revs came back to 2000 and again I depressed the accelerator pedal and it revved out to 40000 rpm again and the oil warning light came on so I pulled over and turned off the motor. Checking the oil in the motor it was OK so I called the NRMA who attended, towed me into the nearest town and the service centre said I had a blown big end.
Question: Could this in any way be related to the work on the supercharger a week earlier?

I highly doubt it, big end bearings are a pretty common failure on Ecotec V6's. We're replacing/repairing quiet a few Ecotecs with big end bearings gone ATM where i work, they're getting to that stage in there life unfortunately.

Many thanks. I will give this some thought. I have been quoted $4400 for a fitted reconditioned motor but will enquire what a rebuild will cost on Monday.
