Hey team.

Have a question regarding the wonderful Toyota 2uz-fe. my cruiser has developed a oil leak, appears to be comming from the front of the motor somewhere i suspect the cam shaft oil seal. Question i have is roughly how much would you expect to pay for a repair to have both seals replaced? and is this something that can be done in the car?

Wouldn't have a clue on repair costs.
Camshaft seals can be replaced without removing the engine from the bay.

Just a basic rundown, but to replace the camshaft seals you will have to:
Remove the timing cover
Remove timing belt off the camshaft sprockets
Remove camshaft sprockets
Replace cam seals
Re-assemble.

As a preventative maintenance measure, I suggest that you replace the Timing Belt, Belt Tensioner & Idler pulley and also the Water pump while the mechanic or yourself are in there and the front of the engine is open and exposed.
To replace them at a later date will require removal of timing cover again, as well as the harmonic balancer to be able to remove the timing belt from around the crankshaft sprocket. And the water pump is always easier to replace when the timing components are removed.
The water pump on the 2uz-fe is actually driven by the timing belt.

Will try and find some pics for you and post them up

Hope these pics help with the basic explanation in my previous post.

You can also see the timing marks on the Harmonic balancer and the camshaft sprockets in this pic.

Thanks for the reply matt, looks like a job for a mechanic, way to many bits in there for me to destroy.
