Is this a sign of a leaking valve cover gasket?

I've changed the oil cap and I still see oil around the neck of the cap and the video shows it going the whole way down so I'd assume its not just coming through the oil cap..

Potentially valve cover gasket? Is there any way to check without removing the cover?

Yep. Clean it off and see where it weeps from.

Clean it up properly first then inspect.

I'm going to guess the seal behind the balancer is buggered and the cam cover gaskets are leaking.
Clean the PCV out on the top rear drivers side and see if the cam cover leak continues.
There's a "How To" in the "How To" subforum.

looking at the build up I've got a decent job ahead of me, gave it a crack now and I then read the degreaser can which states to let it soak for 3 minutes then wash off with hose.. if I go at the build up with degreaser will it degrade the belt?

I've still got a lot to learn about engines.. is the balancer the lower wheel on the drivers side, and the cam being what moves the pistons? Did the pcv mod a few months ago which I've noticed is blowing the vapour into the air intake so the catch can has been ordered, but cheers

The big wheel at the bottom central to the engine. Get a mechanic to change it because it sucks to remove.

Cam covers are the two black covers on each side of the motor.

Sweet, gonna sort out the leaking gasket soon and was wondering if the intake manifold has a gasket that needs replacing?

It does have one. Upper manifold gasket. Old ones used to be paper. New are metal with a silicon seal.
Lower manifold stays on.

Good chance to give the throttle body a clean.
Throttle body harness connector has a clip that slides out and then a tang that releases the connector.
LY7 motors will have a connector on the back of the intake manifold.

Finally got around to doing this, went for a drive and noticed a specific burning smell when I popped the hood, had a look around and saw what appears to be oil on the exhaust which I'd assume dripped when I took the cover off? Is oil on the exhaust a concern for fire?

Also had the engine running whilst looking at the area and didn't notice any new drips

Don’t worry about a little bit of oil on the exhaust mate it will just burn itself off, a little bit of smoke
