Varex is crap. Too loud when open too restrictive when shut.

Maybe you just had a crap install? Mine are perfect and not too loud when open,..and silent when shut. Just right!

Well then he hasn't had it fitted correctly. If it "sounds like ass" when closed, than he has bigger issues. It should sound like a normal Commodore at idle. And if he feels that "sounds like ass", then maybe a Commodore is not for him.

Being a cannon style muffler they're very barky, probably work better on some setups than others. I've heard some systems with varex that do sound quite good, others that sound like aids.

That's the thing with exhaust note, what one person likes another won't. Opinions are like a clitoris, every #### has one.

Had an X pipe added to mine. Noticeably quieter when driving, though still a bit loud on idle due to the cam.
