How do you really know PB actually signed it?
Where you there when PB signed it?
Do you have any photos of him at the car with a texta, or anything else that could show provinance?

I've seen PB's signature as both Peter... and Pete... and the way he signs makes for an easy forgery.
I've even known people who've had PB signatures on their cars that they've done themselves :p

Supposedly he was a prolific signer so it's could be genuine but how do you know?
Regardless, the cars going to be nice when rebuild

Sometimes you just have to have faith brother . I took out the radiator. The guy I bought it off just purchased it and installed the electronic fan. I ve never been a fan of them, just extra thing that can go wrong and it seems a lot of people have cooling issues with them. All my muscle cars had a shroud and a blade fan, never had any issues.. The issue with this radiator is that, there are no screw holes on one side!? silly.. the original shroud has 2 holes on each side.. I ll have to figure something out..

get a new standard cooper radiator, find a shroud and fan i think they had a clutch fan.
the fan thats there looks like someone as dodgie as me would do because ole mate had no money and was going to drive it anyway.
The few horses the thermo frees up isnt much compared to stable engine temp ,when your sitting in traffic with the ac on. You could fit a couple of big fans that might work theres plenty of threads on what will cool an early commodore.
if no other mods put it back to factory is easiest for most of us then if you ever want to sell it buyers like factory better.

The stock brass unit would be the best but honestly I don't want to spend money on it.This radiator is brand new, I found this shroud for $75 bucks.I will be able to work something out to fit it. if I can get away with just fitting the steel fan blade without using the clutch fan, that would be good.My 68 Chevelle runs just a steel blade and a shroud , it never gives me any issues, I am hoping the same for the Commodore.

That fan shroud looks like it's off a HJ or HX/HZ. Check the pics I have attached, they're of a genuine vb - vk v8 commodore. It is attached by 2 screws at the top not the sides.

I did know where there was a Commodore fan shroud for $50.....Holla if you want me to check if it is still available....

I priced up a 3 core 6 cyl copper rad for a VC 12 months ago, because mine had a pin hole in it....$600 or there abouts....Nearly had a heart attack....$50 later, my rad was fixed....

I personally have 2 thermos on my 6 cyl...A large one on the engine side, covering the bottom radiator hose side of the rad and a smaller one, bumperbar side of the rad, covering the opposite half of the rad...This is controlled by a thermo switch, set to come on at 90 degrees and off at 80 degrees...I don't have them bolted through the cores of the rad. I've made brackets up so they are close to the core of the radiator

In the 6 years they have been fitted, I haven't had any issues....But everyone has their own ideas on what they wish to use as a cooling aid...

I would not hesitate to use a thermo fan(s) on a VC.
When Davies Craig released them, I put one on my HK, then transferred it to the Torana, and then onto my HJ, and then to a HQ when the HJ died. So the same one lasted about 30 years, using DIY, home made brackets mounted in front of the radiator behind the grille.
No shrouds, released so many trapped ponies ;), and quieter engine noises.
The only down side is that you get used to not having a fan blade spinning in your face, and I nearly did myself an injury when I bought the HQ, and absent mindedly and foolishly put my hand down in front of the running motor for some reason.

Thanks Sire, you are correct that shroud is not for VB. I've managed to find one locally off a 6 cyl VB, $25 bucks.

I've noticed that my radiator has small bolt holes on the top of it. I am sure I will be able to attach the original shroud to it.

As for fans, you are right Figjam, it can depend few things, how good the fan is, if it's wired correctly, how big is the engine as well.

I am sure that 253 wouldn't need the same cooling requirements as 355 stroker.

Next I need to source the fan blade, do I really need one with a clutch fan?

I can see that early Holden's (before VB) with 253 didn't have the clutch fan. See pic below. Cheers.
