Hi I have a 2006 VE Berlina Commodore I purchased this second hand and the car had an amplifier in the boot from the previous owner so we took it too a car audio place that removed this for us... Now ever since then we have had an issue with the screen in the radio freezing or going black (as in turned off with sound still coming out) to fix it we normally would turn the car off then on again and it would fix it but recently it took turning off the car and giving the unit a light thump and it would turn back on ..... now after working this morning we go and get in the car this afternoon only to find that the thing is now dead and won't turn on at all this means that we have no climate control, air conditioning or anything as it is all controlled in this one unit...... I have been told that it is probably a faulty fascia and to replace it will cost approx $850 being so close to xmas we don't have that sort of cash ..... so i am going to check the fuses first.... But it has also been suggested that i remove the fascia and put it back on again now i know that this will require muscle lol however what i am not sure about is that if i remove this fascia if i am going to need the code when i reattach it or if that only happens when the power from the battery is disconnect...... Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks Kristy and Matt
thanks heaps ..... apparently they are coded but its vin coded so this is good..... thanks heaps again ( i found this out after i had posted this lol
If the fascia connections are the problem, you should still be able to turn on AC, and set the temperature. (The only thing is you wont know what temperature you have set, as the screen will be blank). Likewise you should be able to turn on the radio, and hear some sound (But again, you will not know what you are listening to, as the screen will be blank). If the above is the case, then as BigBoss suggested, pull of the fascia, and plug it back in again. This will re-seat the connections, and you should have a screen again. If the above is not the case, then it could be a blown fuse, or even the Audio place may have not locked down the head unit electrical connector. (The connector is located on the drivers side, just behind the center console trim). I dont think the head unit has blown, as these things are built like tanks, and take some punishment. I hope this helps ???
Oh, and there is a fuse in the head unit as well, next to this electrical connector. It could be a simple case of changing this fuse, and viola !
