Manual says 7.3L or something like that.

As for oil type, it's totally dictated by your budget. I think 5-30 is what they recommend. Some people put 0-40 in. $80-$100 per 5L. Mobile, Castrol Edge , Royal Purple. Etc etc

Filter is up to you and again depends on budget. Ryco, Drift, deco, $10-$35

Holds a bit over 8 litres think you will find, you can buy genuine filters for $17.50 over the counter

From 4 and a half years of servicing ve's, pretty sure they take between 8.1 - 8.2 litres (on the oil gun readout)

I'm just going off the manual, if you service them, I don't doubt you at all. Strange they would say one thing and do another.

Pretty sure the L98's held a touch over 8Ltr's but the L76 only held mid 7. Not uncommon for the Holden factory trained technician (apprentice) to over fill an L76 by nearly a ltr

Yep very common for the workshops to overfill the sumps on the VE 6.0ltr engines (easy to overlook I would guess). I pointed this out to Holden when they were putting new engines in my old SSV. 2006-2009 (early 2009) L98 the sump capacity was 8.3ltrs with a filter. My last L98 was an Aug 2009 built motor and it had the newer sump requiring only 7.6ltrs to the mark with a new filter.

The service techs were amazed when I showed them how they had over filled it and got them to redo the oil change and measure it out rather than assume the capacity. That same sump was then used on the L76 and L77 (latest series2)....

    8L approx. +/- .2L with a filter change, and recommended to use 5 - 30W.
Considering the cost of the filters now, why would you not change the filter with the oil,
since you have to remove the under body moulding.
I did get an email from Supercheap today, that they have a specials on this weekend on oils, always good to keep an eye on their specials.
As for the filter, I usually purchase a pack of 4 off eBay, and keep the rest on the shelf till next time.

I was wondering the same thing, how could I tell? also the dip stick still reads up to the bump and I did take it for a short drive. I am thinking maybe the sump was changed for clearance, because it was lowered on Super low King springs...the sump is very flat on the bottom and square looking.
