You will need to press the pedal a few times to build pressure back up.

Any fluid leaking anywhere?

Ive pressed the pedal a **** load of times now. It firms up for a bit then i start to drive and then press the brake and its all soft again.

when I was unbolting the caliper i accidentally undid the bold connect the hose and fluid spilt everywhere but i quickly bolted it back up. Could this have anything to do with it.

Im suck a dick

Yes youll have air in the system.

On each caliper is a bleed nipple with a rubber cap, you need to ensure the brake fluid reservouir is full with clean fluid.

Get a 10mm spanner and get someone to sit in the driver seat.

Get them to pump the brake till it firms up and hold force onto the pedal. While they do this undo the bleed nipple and allow the fluid to come out. Tell them to hold the pedal to the floor then tighten the nipple again. Then tell them to pump the pedal till hard and repeat this about 5 times. Keep an eye on the fluid level and top up as required.

You should only have to do it on the caliper that you worked on so see how it goes.

Dont allow them to lift the pedal with the bleed nipple undone or it will draw air back in.

chances are he has let air into the system, so i'd be bleeding the rest of the system too.

you'll surprised how much fluid you'll use mate, make sure eyou keep that reservour topped up.

No you shouldn't just make sure you don't open the bleed nipple.

Also when you bleed your brakes start with the left (pass) rear, then right (driver) rear, front left, then front right.

voodoo makes a good point, always bleed from the back first.
the only thing I disagree on is bleeding the brakes.... I always bleed after putting in new pads, regardless of whether bleed nipple opened. it doesnt take long to do and its a good habit to get in to. change pads = bleed brakes.

I do have 1 question. My last car (a 100 series Landcruiser 4x4) you had to pump the peddle like 40 something times before you could blled the system and have the ing to acc to allow some sort of pump to work. All this had to do with ABS . Do commodores have to do this also ???

I do agree bleed the system anyway after even just a pad change or say every 6 months helps to keep good fluid in use.I bleed my road race bikes brakes before every race or track day.

Sorry 1 more question whats the best fluid DOT???? (Again back to the toyota 4x4) if you used anything other than DOT3 it swelled the rubber O rings and gave a sticky peddle. Real PITA. I`ve only had our VE for a week so haven`t looked to see if its DOT3,DOT4 or superDOT4. Hope they not like Harleys and run DOT5 :( ..
