Hi guys. Got a 2008 Ve Calais with the lcd screen head unit. Problem is the screen coating is shocking. Sooooo if I find the same radio even if it's a s2 is it a straight changeover to replace mine aside from the vin reprogramming?

Series 1 and Series 2 Audio systems are completely different,
Especially the screens,
I think @Fu Manchu did a S1 to S2 change over in his S1 Calais.
He maybe able to assist with your question/s.

Series 2 is a completely different interior design and different headunit. They are in no way interchangeable.

The facia can be replaced, just needs to be flashed with your VIN to prevent a no start condition or headunit faults.

The facia simply pulls off of on series 1. It couldn’t be any easier. Grip the base of the facia and pull out toward you.

Well. They are interchangeable however that requires a major conversion project and quite a lot of money resulting in a lesser system IMO.

Ahh ok. I saw 2nd hand head unit and looked exactly same as mine.. Ie no navi or anything but was 2010 s2 I think it said.
I understand the s2 conversion to the touchscreen navi unit. Basically just want to buy the same unit I have but with a display in better condition
So I guess it must be a s1 then. Cheers guys

You might be able to find someone with a Tech2 bidirectional scan tool to reflash the facia.

Or send it off to LSxtreme to have it done.

Or ASL media

Or EnvyousCustoms.

Just thinking though, I know series 2 absolutely has to be VIN flashed. However no harm in trying the series 1 and if it works, it works. If not, pop your other one back on and send off the replacement.

I replaced the screen in my series 2 headunit. That meant I didn’t have to have it VIN matched. I disassembled the facia and removed the screen component and put in a better one.
