VE Calais M82 transmission same as in VZ Calais?

so i have a 2008 ve calais with a M82 trans, thats making noises, looking for a replacement, noticed VZ calais has M82 trans.

any difference between the two? or will it have no issues?

The M82 transmission is the dreaded 5 speed. Your 2008 would have the 6L80 6 speed, completely different.

I thought it was a 6 speed auto but on the engine bay compliance plate it says m82 for transmission.

The 6 speed was introduced in 2009 on the series 1.5. Series 1 body and the direct injection Alloytec and 6spd.

The 5L40e is dogshit in the VE. They seem to be ok in the VZ though.
