Hi guys,

I have a 2010 VE Calais. Recently it has started acting strange with its gear selection.
When climbing a hill it refuses to shift back gears to increase revs and will drop almost to a stall. If I take my foot off the throttle then accelerate again it will drop back a gear and accelerate. It also gets lost when coasting on the highway and sometimes wants to drop back gears for no reason, then will get stuck switching between gears until I stop and then take off again.
I have done an oil and filter change on both engine and gearbox, changed the throttle body and throttle position sensor and even replaced the battery as I was getting high and low voltage spikes. Nothing has worked. Please help

First thing would be to get it scanned,
It may have hidden DTC's which may not cause the MIL to activate,
Sounds a bit like limp mode.
Could even be a lose connector on the transmission.

check your battery as well, a failing battery will cause your transmission to play up as well

Is the fluid at the correct level?

Battery was failing and mechanics thought that might have been the issue so it has just been replaced

^ ^ ^ Sounds very much like a solenoid fault to me.

Update: while driving today I have tested the throttle response by cruising at 100kmh and then accelerate aggressively, roughly 50% of the time the transmission would drop back a gear and the car would accelerate. The other 50% the car would not respond at all, no acceleration or anything. The ESP also faults after about 10 mins of driving.
