Have a VE Calais, 6lt, has done a little over 168K. Am constantly getiing the Check Oil warning in the centre display. I usually push trip to get rid of it, Have checked the oil, dipstick level is correct, Have reset the engineering mode for oil life, still get the warning, can be on acceleration, or start up or just in traffic. Sometimes it goes off, other times it will stay on till the engine is turned off. Is there an oil level sensor in the sump? any other suggestions! John:hmmm:

There is an oil pressure sensor attached to the engine at the back of the inlet manifold. Sensor failure is not uncommon and they are also known to cause oil leaks. You need a 27mm long/deep socket to remove/replace the sensor. It can be a bit awkward to remove due to lack of clearance and if the sensor was overtightened in the first place. The sensor can also get stuck in the socket. If that happens just use a screw driver or similar to knock the sensor out of the socket from the connector side.

Thats best case scenario, that warning light also comes on when oil pressure is below 30kpa.
The way the light is comming and going, id say it would be the sensor but when you remove the sensor, it wouldnt hurt to do a oil pressure test using a mechanical gauge.

I had the same thing happen in my WM Caprice. I thought it was the OPS but was actually the oil level sensor in the bottom of the sump (can be pulled without dropping the sump) its like a long tube thing with a float in it.. Might be that, either way both cheap parts (sub $70) and easy to replace.

I have a 2011 ssv wagon and just recently had a SVS message on dash, Found info here on probable causes, Not sure of an oil level sensor but changed the oil pressure sensor located passenger side rear of engine and all sorted. 27mm deep hex socket and some patience. Love this site
