Hi all, just wanted to talk about my ABS and Traction Control on my 2006 VE Omega. I drive it about 160km per day to and from work, about 8-9 months ago I lost my traction control and ABS, the lights came on and the messages appeared when starting the car. I wasn't too bothered about paying holden the $500+ they wanted to fix it, and I didn't have time to take it in so I let it go and got used to driving it without these features...
My girlfriends parents live on a farm, so you have to travel over a man made ford (not the car, the water crossing!) and dirt. I remember the weeks leading up to losing my ABS there was heavy rain, so the dirt roads lifted a lot of mud and cow ****. So due to this, I self diagnosed it as being a wheel sensor being dirty or something, but due to my inexperience with cars and braking systems, I never checked in fear I'd take something off, and not be able to put it back together correctly.
Yesterday, on my way to work I got a nice surprise, my dash seemed clear of errors. I figured this in itself was an error, as my cars computer has crashed and been wierd before (Audio controls not working and such)... I got to work, turned my car off, then back on. Check engine flashed breifly and then cleared once started. I let it go for the day and checked again after lunch, check engine showed again but all seemed good. On my way home, it started fine with no check engine... I done ABS test at 60km/h and it worked fine, although, I should have removed my phone from the passenger seat, but luckily it survived.
I think I may have had mud and dirt in the ABS sensor and due to recent rain it may have washed out. I think this is an important first step for anyone with ABS and Traction control on this car, particuarly if driving on dirt roads is to check and clean the sensors... I hope this is the issue but the way things are going, I'm pretty happy. I was hoping someone on this forum with a bit of time and a VE commodore can maybe make some instructions with pictures on checking the sensors.
Thanks.
