My VE has splash marks all over the cluster lens. Nothing gets it off. I've bought a new lens from Holden. Problem is, I there's 3 screws under the dashboard (in where the lens is) and one of them won't come out. It just keeps screwing.

Any tips on how I can get this last screw out ?? Otherwise I can't replace the lens.

    Thanks :)

My had the same, have you tried Metho and a massive amount of elbow grease. Took me a good 15mins, but I got mine off, lots of time over the same spots.

if you can get a small flat head behind the head of the screw it will help push it out while unscrewing.

Yep tried metho. It did nothing. Nor did turps. I tried pretty hard too.

I am not able to get a small screwdriver in there. It's already a countersunk hole. Plus it's behind the steering wheel and in an upside down direction. Ie hard to get at.

Any other tricks to get it out?

bluetack on the end of the screw driver may grab the screw to bring forward

I don't think so. It's a tight thread and I've got to push hard just to get it to grab the screw and turn. I think I'm "screwed".

Well you can either keep trying to clean or try dropping the steering wheel and getting a short handle screwdriver and keep trying at it.

Try a slightly bigger screw driver. I had a similar problem and it worked for me.

find a small cheap flat blade screwdriver, bend less than 1mm of the tip over 90o, slot that in behind the problem screw and pull towards you while you unscrew it.

I'm going to try putting string wire around the base of the screw when I get it out as far as it comes and pull down on it while unscrewing. Hopefully it'll do the job.

Get a cheap screw driver slap some super glue on the tip, hold that on the screw until it dries then pull and screw.

Do you really think the super glue will hold?? I reckon it'll break first twist.

One way to find out. And what have you to lose apart from some skin on your fingers?

    Threatening the screw sometimes helps.

Liquid nails is much stronger than super glue, try that next if the super glue fails. I use liquid nails for countless odd jobs and it never lets me down. I even used it to glue down new carpet over old carpet on an office I renovated, turned out great and saved a full week of hard work and $$$.

Try using something like silvo or brasso to pollish the plastic and possibly pollish out the marks.
Won't hurt to try, if it removes the marks then you wont need to remove the cluster :idea3:

I'll give that polish a go first. Good suggestion. Failing that, I'll try liquid nails.

Ok.. Polish failed. My mate had a handy tool, slim and long with small hook on the end. Screw came out. Cluster lens swapped and it's all done. Man it looks soo much better. Stoked.
