Dear Members,
A Few weeks ago I had to change my Fuel Pump in my VE S2 V8 L77 Sportwagon,
All went well, but since then, my car doesn't want to start first thing in the morning,
Turn the key and it cranks ok, but fails to start, turn it again and it fires up,
It sounds like it isn't getting fuel when you turn the key first time after it been sitting for a while,
I am now thinking the original Fuel Pump may of had a non return valve [check valve] in the unit, where the replacement may not,
I purchased the replacement at Repco, and they said it was the direct replacement.
I tried different fuel blends, high octane 98, 95, E10, all with the same result.
Has any other members had the same issues ?
I was thinking of installing a 8mm non return valve inline at the tank end, where the fuel line under the bonnet is protected/covered, and I don't wish to disturb that, in the event it leaks, being it gets a tad hot under there, and the fuel line is at the top of the motor under the engine cover, but directly above the left exhaust manifold.

Do you have the exact part number that was installed?
What year and month is your S2?
Did you install yourself?

Hi there, Yes I did install in myself,
Aug 2012 L77 with AFM.
As had a fair bit of experience working on cars from 1975,
the Part I got from Repco is a Fuelmiser FPE-703.
I asked twice is that the correct replacement part, and was told it was.

Yep that pump is one size fits all 06-13, where your car (Series II L77) is programmed to use the high volume e85 pump per LSA engines. Definitely incompatible. Is like the ones on eBay for $95 that fit 2006 V6 through e85 V8...
GM part 19260557 is correct.

Car is never going to run right (you would need to re-flash a downgraded OS to both the ECU tune and firmware in the Fuel Pump Command Module).
Pump needs to come out.
If it were me I'd consider future proofing with DeatschWerks DW400 direct swap, ~$280. Then at any later stage you can up the injectors from 42lb to 54lb for another ~$280.

I went to Repco today, and questioned them again,
and they said that is the correct one for my vehicle to cater for AFM,
So not sure where to go from here,
He did say to get a fuel pressure test done, to make sure there is enough pressure in the rail,
which is what I will organise in the next few days.

No, it is not the correct one. All fricken V8 autos had AFM from 2009. That’s not what defines your pump, rather that it is same as ZL1 or GTS LSA to output +30% more volume as the L77 is factory flex fuel (e85) vehicle.
Standard pump won’t work, as above, easier to replace it than reprogram ECU and FPCM, sorry.
400 kpa (58 psi) from ignition on through 5700 rpm. Most OBD dongle / phone app combos will show you fuel pressure under various conditions. Whereas testing at the schraeder valve on the rail is just going to give you pressure while stationary.
Main thing is the digital pump (PCM) won’t respond properly to the tune.

I just put my Autel unit on it and it is saying 390 > 400 kpa, [approx. +/- 5kpa]
I guess I will have to replace it, didn't want to do that, mongrel of a job.
Oh well, we live and learn.
thank you.

I’d monitor Fuel Rail Pressure maybe log a bit to determine correlation between crank commanded spike as I’m pretty sure cranking fuel pressure should be 475 for example, more under certain circumstances.
I’m guessing after cool down (FRP goes ballistic just after hot run) switch IGN on it doesn’t hit 475?

Who knows log may indicate all good.

Oh and BTW the easy way to access the fuel pump is under the back seat, a couple of write-ups but yeah only takes an hour or so no need to drop the tank etc.
