Ve gearbox

Has anyone put a gearbox and tcm out of a vx into a Ve?? They have the same trans code and seem to look the same from underneath.
I've been told that if the trans code is the same then they should fit, but I've also been told that they won't..

Everything is possible with time and money, but I doubt one would bolt up and just work.
