Have the engine running so that the system has 13-14 volts when a recalibration of the HVAC doors are done. Modules like full system voltage when being relearned or programmed.
Ok so thats what I have been doing wrong. Mine has been blowing out cold air on drivers side and hot air on passenger side when temp is set to hot. I was doing the re learn with engine off . Would fix it for a couple of days then go back to blowing cold air again , tried the way you suggested and all good so far . Thanks

There is a pressure switch on (I think) the aircon high pressure line and if pressure isn’t sensed the system won’t fire up the compressor. It’s a safety feature as no gas = little oil circulation = damaged compressor if it runs in such situations.

So either the gas is gone or the switch is faulty, both are easy to check but I’d suspect gas has leaked out.

I can’t clearly remember but I thought the high pressure pipe/hose junction is a known problem on VE (or was it VF)? They seem to leak at the pipe to hose junction where it is crimped some years down the track. From what I’ve read, such seems to be a common issue amongst many vehicle brands, especially if they use the smaller diameter (lighter) hoses...

It’s an easy check, feel for oil around allthe hose pipe junction, if it’s oily it’s leaking (or has leaked all the gas out and some oil and dye with it). If you have a black light you can also shine it on the area where you may see green fluorescent leak dye light up... (not all black lights are the correct wavelength to make the dye strongly glow.

Same for any other leak location, oil and dye is also forced out with the gas so it’s a good indicator of where the leak is...

Knowing where the fault is is great and all but you still need an aircon mechanic to resolve the issue as such is strongly regulated.

A good 3rd party aircon specialist would probably be cheaper than Holden (who may do it in-house or outsource it to a specialist and add their margin).

Have you checked that the AC belt is still there? That was the issue when my AC stopped working.

Good point!

Series 1 VE V8's were known for throwing the A/C belts off.

Because they didn’t have enough tension on the belt, [the S2's have an additional pulley]
Where the S1's can vibrate when the clutch activates, wears the belt so it will slip, becomes more lose, and then snap.
I had a friend of mine call in and mention his air conditioning isn’t work too well,
Well, it wasn’t working at all, as the belt had shredded itself, and wrapped itself around the harmonic balancer,
lucky it didn’t take out the main belt also.
After pulling the remnants out with pointy nose pliers, I loaned him my old A/C belt [I have for a spare under the spare wheel] for a couple of days, till I got a replacement one for him,
Then installed his new one.
All worked ok then.
