Hi all Just wanted to find out what ignition coils (other than genuine that cost 106 each) people have used in their V6 ALLOYTEC? There are a few brands out there, like Airtex, Calibre (RAE branded), tridon, bosch/Delphi/delco, hitachi, just wanted to find out if there were higher performance ones/ ones that won't catch fire like I've heard, cheers!
Well genuine coils are Delphi from memory so they would be fine but I fitted a set from MACE and they seem ok for $180. I do believe genuine coils are better than most aftermarket brands.
Did you notice anything different with the MACE ones over genuine? I've seen those on eBay for that Price.
Just finished the install about 10 days ago but don't notice a difference. Don't forget the original set were 240,000 Km old when I tossed them tho...
Mine are close to 220,000km. I've had oil leak into cylinder one and it's coming out from the coil leaking down the rocker cover, so whilst changing the spark plug seal on the cover, I'm going to change the coils. Thanks for the insight
That sounds like a lot of oil... Make sure you do the plugs as well. Coils are easy to do it's just the upper intake gets in the way of 3 of them. Hopefully you won't find bigger issues under the rocker covers with sludge everywhere.
I will do the plugs even though I did them 15,000km ago with the chains, there shouldn't be sludge since I had the rocker covers off then. It's just odd one seal giving way and it only happens after 30 minutes of driving, where a small intermiddent misfire occurs
Hi Andy22, as a coil distributor I would like to add to what others have commented on. Whether you buy Aftermarket or OEM coils, people must remember that very few auto parts are made outside of China, in fact Chinese manufacturers that make the OEM parts are also the same manufacturer that make Aftermarket parts, only difference is the re-branding. Each are equally as reliable and suitable to use. When buying Aftermarket makes sure the seller is part of the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA).
