Might be a bit late to mention this, but Repco have a clearance sale on 10 litres of Penrite Enviro+ GF-5 5w-30 for $67.
Could only get one drum from the local Repco.
For comparison, 5 litres was $64, and 20 litre drum was $331...
Good luck trying to find some.

My 2008 VE has done 283k and I still use 5w/30 but now I change it every 10ks..... never uses any oil and runs like a charm..... I should add that I use an oil flush each time ;)

The forum consensus of late seems to er toward 5W-40. Factory is 5W-30.
People using the 5W-40 have been happier with it in extreme heat, which would have been one of the compromises made by Holden/GM when recommending the 5W-30 for the global use motor.

5W is is the cold temp viscosity.
30 or 40 is the viscosity at hot.

Use a fully synthetic.

Change every 5000 (Not the 7000 recommended)

Which means you've had control over how the car has been serviced throughout its life.
Most people haven't, or had to trust that the servicing has actually been done by dealers or independents. (No shortage of stories there).

I also do a flush on most changes, but that is frowned on by some. I've never had issue with it and feel better about the condition of the motor.

Back in the day of the 202 red motors, and then the Buick V6, I used diesel/oil mix to do the flush. I dare not do that now days.
Dad used kero/oil in the early Honda motors I learnt on.
We used diesel/oil or kero/oil as a flush in the alloy head Ford straight 6.

Good on you Robbo.
I also use as the General says.....5-30.
But I don't flush. Just a change twice a year.

Mate I'm not here to have a **** fight over what evers..... I worked out of GMH Dandenong in the good days..... so I go back along way I have my opinion and you have yours..... let's leave it at that...... my VE get's looked after very well and never let's me down when I'm towing my 6mtr boat.... enjoy your day ;)
Not sure what you mean? I was agreeing with you.

The other stuff is more a summary of what the 1354 threads about oil have discussed on here.
It's a consensus that 5000 changes are recommended by most, engine flushing starts arguments, and recent chats about the extreme heat has lead to those running 5W-40 in older engines being happier with how the engine runs.

I still use 5W-30 but will start using 5W-40 on the next one as per the forums suggestions.

That's all.
