- VE Commodore Omega 2007
Hey guys, first post in here so forgive me if this is the wrong section.
So on the 23/12/21 (my birthday) my 07 omega started acting up when shifting through gears (4 speed auto), was a little laggy but wasn’t slipping. Being the time of year it was, it was impossible to get it to a shop to get looked at. I immediately said to myself I need to get a tranny service, something I’ve not done myself before so wasn’t confident in doing it, either way I had organised to see family for Christmas and was meant to leave on Christmas Eve. Which I did, a 3.5 hour drive. Car went strong, was laggy when changing between 3rd and 4th and something didn’t want to at all. Made it back on the 28/12. With all the public holidays we had I still couldn’t get it into a shop. 2 days ago was when it well and truly pooped itself. Had only gone up the road to the servo (maybe 2km away from home) and she just completely slipped out of 3rd gear and now just revs out. When I got home I called a mobile mechanic and he came out yesterday. He took it for a spin around the block and told me the gearbox was stuffed and it wasn’t even worth him doing a tranny service (which is what I booked him for). And he left.
I rang an auto trans specialist local to me and told him the issue, he said a full rebuild of tranny would be roughly $3300, and a part rebuild where he said they’d strip it down, look at what’s broken and what isn’t, then put it back together “fixed”, roughly $1500-$1700. Not the kind of money I have just laying around after Christmas. I had previously posted in a VE Facebook group with a video of what was happening, and a bloke in there told me what was happening and it was an easy fix. He then told me he wanted to help me more as he has been rebuilding gearboxes for trucks and cars his whole life and definitelyseemed like he knew what he was talking about. He said the band may be broken but then I mentioned to him the mobile mechanic scanned it (I had engine light, ABS light and stability control faults all on) and one of the codes thrown was PCM internal or something like that. Mechanic said he’d never seen it before and had no idea what it was. I tried to text him to get the exact fault code but he never responded. I told Facebook guy this and he said:
thanks for that this is your problem one of the solenoid that controls the fluid pressure through the bands for the box to change gear..and these are usually the codes.

Another bloke who I serviced my car with a while ago said that may be the issue and replacing a solenoid or 2 is very easy. Does anyone else here have any ideas or experienced this. I don’t have the kind of money to fork out for a whole new car or even a full rebuild of the tranny. But without having it stripped and looked at, I’m not really gonna know the exact issue, unless I can get my hands on a scanner and give the exact code it’s throwing.
engine light has been on previously and it was the oil pressure sensor which was replaced and cleared the codes. But engine light come back on roughly 3 weeks ago. It’s my own fault for not getting onto it fast enough but I’m already feeling sorry for myself so thought I might be able to save myself a lot of money by posting in here for other suggestions. Cheers
