Are they a PITA to fit like the previous generation IRS cars?

worse..... you smash things getting the old out
and have to replace not only the bearing!

get a genuine manual and have a read of the procedure

Supercheap auto might have a good deal on a mechanic stethoscope which is a good tool that takes guess work out of "is it diff noise or wheel bearing noise"
You could also use a screw driver to listen to the noise whilst jacked up.
In both cases don't forget to turn off traction control

But as above the load test also proved that the noise is the wheel bearing

Yeah they will be fine but can't vouch for the quality though. From memory, Holden sell the hub and bearing seperately and 1 side will be more expensive than that pair.

Either way, be sure to buy new axle nuts as they're single use only.

I have after market front wheel bearings and they seem to do the job.

How come I can't reuse the same axle nut? That's the nut that's in between the hub and connected on the end of the drive shaft ?

Because they are single use nuts.

Once removed the integrity may be compromised and seeing it holds such important components I wouldn't risk it but that's up to you.

... How come I can't reuse the same axle nut? ...
Sitting by the side of the road next to his wrecked car after his wheel fell off, he asks himself “why did I reuse the same axle nut on such a critical part just to save a few dollars?”

Ive been looking online and I can buy just the bearings or bearings and wheel hub.

Can I just purchase the After market wheel bearings and fit them with the genuine hub or do I need both the wheel bearings and hubs?

You're better off buying the bearing and hub as no doubt the old hub will be rusted causing you more grief anyway.

Also as mentioned earlier you should get a new axle nut too
