Hi guys, hoping someone can help me out...

Planning to fit up my new Brembos to my S1 VE SS in the morning (front only) but can't find a reference for the caliper bolt torque. And being alloy castings I'm very wary of stripping the threads

Hopefully someone here has fitted a set and can remember how much, and the original verifiable source?

Had a look around on the net since this post and still difficult to be completely sure, but found a few sites suggesting on the CTS-V they torque them to 30 degrees and then turn them a further 90 degrees, or 1.4 turn

So started to do this but noted that they were VERY tight on the breaker bar after about 3/16 of a turn so left it there for now, used the blue thread lock so they shouldn't shake loose over the next few days while I do some more research.

Front 96 and rear 88 foot pounds

Anyway after fitting them up (using the original hose which fits very well, and new crush washers) I'm very impressed. Not surprising really as there is twice the clamping force (4 by 40 mm pistons instead of two) and a slightly larger diameter disc

Sorry, typo above. I did 30 foot pounds then 5/16 of a rotation with breaket bar

Also wondering what people think about re-using bolts in alloy calipers - the whole torque to yield thing is less convincing when its an alloy caliper since it would be the caliper yielding, not the bolt...

But what I'm wondering is whether the alloy calipers use a different/lower torque setting tot he one in the picture. Even though there is nearly twice as much bolt in the Aluminium caliper, Aluminium is no where near as strong as steel...

Seems like I could possibly be in the right ballpark already?

Although I only did 3/16 of a turn after first torquing them to 30 foot pounds, this is 3/16 of 1.75 mm of bolt movement so perhaps 0.4 mm of potential shortening on a bolt that is already pinched up pretty tight....

I would caution that the HSV caliper and bolt might not be exactly the same as the Brembo setup, eg. different grade of aluminium for casting of caliper (there seem to be heaps) and different thread pitch (stock VE is 12 by 1.5, Brembo is 12 by 1.75 on VE, up to 14 on both I think for VF...)

Also that it seems there might be some wriggle room in the torque setting since it seems less likely the bolt is producing any actual useful friction between caliper and spindle (as opposed to wheel against hub with 5 bolts) and so the bolt is loaded mostly in shear, with the tensile stress added to this - so the tighter it is done up the MORE stress there is on the bolt..

Still be grateful if anyone has for example a scan of the instuctions for a Redline or CTS-V caliper, but the pics above will no doubt be useful for stock and HSV caliper owners.

I just measured up some vw amarok brembo caliper mounting bolts and they appear to be the same as the ctsv caliper mounting bolts.. if anyones struggling to find some locally..
