Hey all. I bought some VE 18s the other day. And I've given them to a mate to be machined on a lathe. Hes told me that I might need bigger nuts because the original nuts on a vl are too small and will almost slip through the stud pattern. Can anyone help me with this, if its true or if there is a way around it. Also a tyre fitter told my mate this. Cheers
Without trying to sound rude, if you've forked oyut for the rims, don't be a tight ass, but new wheel nuts.
Yea that's all I wanted to kno really if I caould get bigger nuts but still be able to put them onto the vl bolts. And have the same thread size.
Thanks. A mate just told me its as easy as drilling the stud holes bigger and buying VE studs and nuts. But then I come into the problem of not being able to get another set of rims in the future coz the studs will be too big. Or would it just be easier to sell or swap the rims
The standard wheel nuts on alloy wheel equipped Vx-Vx work fine. Same size threads and a much larger shoulder and taper that fit well in the VE wheels
Cheers man. You just saved me a few $. I thought I was going to have to convert the studs to VE studs.
I went and grabbed my rims off my mate who machined them today and he tried them on his VL to see if they're a good fit. And the nuts he had on there were holding the rim on perfectly. He also had standard Vl nuts. So I still can't get my head around why they would hold it on when 99% of ppl have told me they won't fit.
The standard nuts will hold the rims on.. For a while. You need the VY/VZ ones with the larger taper to guarantee they'll stay there.. I've been using VE rims for 3 years and havnt had an issue with these nuts.
standard steel wheel nuts will #### the taper in the VE rim.. dont dodge saftey, get a set of vt/vz m12x1.5mm mag wheel nuts.
So today I got my tyres put back on the rims. Got home from work to the rims on. All went on well, then when I go to drive its like the handbrake was on. The stupid 245/45 are too big so they hit the strut tower . Was hella keen to go for a drive. But now I need new tyres and I have rego tomorrow to top it off lol. Am I able to throw on some smaller profile tyres on the front or is going to put my speedo out? Even if it does could I just get some 2nd handies for the back down the track
Quickest and cheapest way is to get spacers. But they take the load off your hub and onto your studs. Which is why they're illegal. But they sell them at autobarn anyway. Could get some as a temp fix while you save for some new tyres.
Yeh I have some 10mm spacers laying around I used for a while on the back with my old 18s. Might give it it a try when soon. Hopefully it works. Don't wanna be driving my Missus' little rocket around haha
