    yeah i agree with SlickHolden.

the holden is designed as model sold worldwide under the parent GM banner therefore they can invest more in the model as opposed to the Falcon being only for australia with a small amount to export like the holden before VE

Sounds like a very smart plan...so much hype to generate over basically a month.

    $37,990 For a base model ?
This car is really going to have to pull out something special to be worth that for a base.
Considering that they are still using that 4 speed clunker with no tiptronic, heavier and many ppl think worse fuel consumption and an overall conserative design (which doesnt look that different to the current model imo)
they really need to have a s##t load of standard features to make the car worth it.

Woah i copped some crap on the 3rd page...I didnt see it til just now searching for where that price came from on the post above. Rather than pollute the thread by re-igniting an old argument, i have typed my response in a document to those who gave me crap. Feel free to pm me if you wanna argue it further, rather than once again turn this thread into a diesel v petrol argument. Attachment below:

well it says its a $1750 price increase on the current executive with air conditioning.
considering that the VE OMEGA will have Electronic Stability (ESP) standard, side and front airbags standard, and a few other bits. $1750 is not a bad increase

Yeah $1750 for a car that should be superior in every aspect...from suspension and handling, to safety, power and performance and by the looks interior quality as well. But I did also hope it would come out at a similar price to the VZ when that came out..but you cant have everything

Check out holden during the VC-VK Days. The XE - XF was a much better car (at the time) and fitted the market very well. the VH in particular was spanked by Ford.

Thats all im saying it has to be superior in all those aspects otherwise its not going to be worth that amount and ppl will realise that.
The thing is that this car should better in seveal areas but at the same time we may be looking at a step backwards such as fuel economy, (which is a huge thing now)Power may be up but performance may be down due to weight, and at this point we have no idea of the quality of the interior it looks ok but looks can be deciving.
Im hoping that this car is going to be brilliant and will be worth every penny but at the same time remain weary as this is a very important car and its value for money has to be spot on.

Its got a 200kw engine, so up 28kw. So on paper that should more than cover for the extra 100kg or so of weight?

I think as long as Holden keep fuel consumption under 12L per 100km (current alloytec 190 is 11.4L) then it shouldnt bother the car too much. The falcon uses much more fuel than that after all.

I think the big competitor could be the Aurion. Base model Aurion is going to be around 200kw as well with a supercharged version set to produce around 278kw from what i've been reading...anyone know more about this?? Its meant to be the first serious competitor from Toyota against the Falcon and Commodore.

The falcon uses a claimed 10.9 L/100km in auto since the BF upgrade so the alloytech still uses a touch more.
The VE is coming into the market against an very succesful falcon and as you said going against the aurion which is going to come out swinging, and i belive it will be a big competitor against Holden and Ford (i dont think that the 380 is really a competitor now its fallen too far behind).
So it will be interesting to see what Ford and Toyota will do to compete and see what Holden will do to counter.

By my reckoning $37,990 - add on road costs - thats close to $40k for the base model on the road with a/c.

I think the gap between the Astra and the Commodore is going to be more noticable - given there is no midsizer (ie Vectra)
