I have a 2007 series 1 VE SV6 and the CD player intermittently gets a mechanism error.
I put a 2nd hand stereo unit into my car as a fix, though it didn't work - the screen doesn't come on and none of the buttons work.
I then removed the CD player from the 2nd hand unit and fitted it to my original stereo, thinking that it was the other stereo that my car didn't like, as it was a different part number.
I put my original stereo + the new CD player back in though it still doesn't work.
The fuse is in the stereo is OK. I also checked all of the other fuses in the engine bay.
The two connectors on the drivers side are fitted OK and I made sure they were pushed in hard.
I made sure that the facia unit was pushed in hard for the connector.
I have reset the car by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.
It still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

I got the same error message on mine when I first got my car (still under warrantee) they are still dicking me around with it. apparently from what I understand is each silver box is match to a car (not sure of relevance) but they say they have to replace 3 sections in mine. Not sure what these sections are but my thinking is maybe its a different part except the main box itself. That's what they told me anyway but these guys wouldn't know **** from clay. Hope this helped somewhat. I would be interested to know what is wrong though when you do find out. If I remember I will tell you what happens with mine.

Take it somewhere with a scantool that can talk to the Infotainment system. That way you can see what is happening.

I've ordered a OBD2 Bluetooth interface to see if that tells me anything. If that doesn't work I'll take it somewhere though I HATE taking my car anywhere because they are all idiots. I'll do my best to figure it out myself first.

Did you actually read my post? Your issue is due to a faulty CD player unit. Get it replaced.
I replaced mine and now everything is dead. This is now a different issue to yours.
