I Have an 08 VE SS with 36000kms & it has developed a squeak in the engine, I thought it may have been a belt so I put it I to my local mechanic who took both the belts off & said it was still there with them off so it must be something inside. He then suggested an oil change to see if it helped so I did an oil change With Penrite PR-5 & it seems to have got louder.
I have been reading about other people having similar issues & it turning out to be the "CAM LOBES" or something like that. Does Anyone know how much it will cost me to get this fixed / do I need to get a complete rebuild?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Sounds like it might be a camshaft lobe that has lost its hardening. Take it to an Engine rebuilder and they will be able to quote you. You're going to be looking at camshaft and lifters as a replacement cost right off the bat, then anything else they might charge out.

Id say it will be a lifter and it would have chewed a cam lobe.
If thats the case its a heads off job to replace the lifters, front of the motor and rad out for the cam.
Should also remove the sump and oil pump just to make sure theres no metal hanging around but not 100% nessacary.
Of the top of my head, id say you'll be up for around 3-4k.
So not a full rebuild. If you were looking at some performance upgrades its a good time to get it done.

I would try and hit up Holden for assistance as its a known issue and the car has low kilometers.

    Worth a try.

Sure you can change the cam with out removing the heads, don't you just have to remove the inlet manifold and rockers/rods?
Perfect time to upgrade the cam if this does turn out to be your problem.

Will also need to replace the lifters which means heads off.

Ok so I'm after a cam lifters & gaskets minimum. I may as well upgrade a few things while the mechanic is doing it, are there any suggestions of some light upgrades that could be done & where I could buy all the parts From?

    Thanks
