G'day everyone,
I have a 08 VE SS. The running temp has always sat at 1/4 on the gauge, never any higher or lower. It usually takes 5 min of driving for it to reach this temp. But the last few days the gauge hardly moves off the cold mark. After 40 min driving it gets to maybe an 1/8 on the gauge. The heater works just fine, so I was wondering what it may be? I thought maybe the thermostat is staying open??
Cheers Spud

Use engineering mode to see the numbers.
Use a non-contact Thermometer to verify them.
Or your hands.. that should answer thermostat or sensor.

That’s what I’d be putting my money on if I was a betting man - the thermostat

Had a similar problem in a VL RB30, gauge indicated low.
Heating was fine, all appeared normal under the bonnet.
Changed the thermostat, and it still indicated the same.
Removed the coolant temp sensor and it had a build up of crud on it.
Cleaned it with scotchbrite and temp went back to normal.
