EDIT: Thanks guys, I ended up bending the hangers. Both sides were in the same hole.

I have another issue though that has been bugging me. The exhaust came with a flange thing (see picture) but with only one gasket for it. I didn't really see the need for it so I left it out. Now however one side is slightly shorter than the other (the side that originally had it attached), I can only notice it because I am a perfectionist and it bothers me but I was wondering if it is worth putting in? What is its function or is it just to fix a slightly short pipe in the manufacture?

    Thanks

    Hi all,

I purchased an Xforce cat-back exhaust for my 2008 VE SS V and decided to give it a crack installing it myself.

I bought a pair of 3 ton stands and plan to use the stock scissor jack (jacking one front side at a time).

I was just wondering where I should place the jack stands on the front (pictures if possible) and if anyone has any tips (I have read a few threads and have a spark plug socket and WD40 for the o2 sensors/bolts).

    Any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks

If you don't have access to a hoist drive the front up on car ramps and put the rear on stands. You'll have a very hard time if you only plan to jack the front of the car up...

Ah really? I read that you could do the rear without jacking it up. I don't have access to a hoist unfortunately, trying to do it on the cheap (hence the Xforce).

I've done a few of these systems, you'll need to get completely under the car and support it as you bolt it on and attach the exhaust hangers. Best bet is to put it on 4 stands or the front on ramps and back on stands :)

ok thanks mate! any chance you could tell me where to put the rear jack stands and where to jack it from? Will the stock jack support the whole back if I lift from the diff?

You'd be better off buying or borrowing a trolley jack. The standard scissor jacks are weak I would never trust one. Put the jack stands where the diff cradle bolts to the body of the car if you know what I mean, and at the front the crossmember infront of the sump is where I jack or support VEs

Thanks mate, I dont know anyone with a trolley jack, still new to Melbourne. If I buy ramps and a trolley jack I am spending about as much as it would cost to get it installed (I have been quoted $250). Do you know anyone around Tullamarine (North/West) area who will install for a decent price?

If your car has been lowered, be aware that you can not just drive up car ramps, you need to chock it up a bit to lift the front enough to clear the ramp before you drive it up, failure to do this will likely result in your front bumper being ripped off - not pretty. Same goes for rear, you need to put an inch thick piece of wood down in front of the ramp for the car to go up before going up the ramp, or its bye bye to your rear bar.

Its stock height but I was looking at ramps with an extension for low cars anyway. Will 750kg ramps each be ok?

That should be fine, atleast if you spend the money on ramps and a decent jack you'll have them for next time you wanna do some work on the car. It's not just money thrown away.

The jacking points are usually in the car hand book in the glove box.

The other option would be to go to a Hire mob like Coates hire or Kennards (I'm in WA, not sure what ones you have). Hire-it have prices online and seem reasonable for day hire.

Some smaller family owned auto parts shops tend to hire out some of this type of gear for good rates. Can't hurt asking a few of your local parts shops.

There's no way in hell if get under a car that's in any way shape or form supported by a factory supplied jack.

That's a good idea, I hadn't even thought of hiring. To bad I have shelled out for the stands but I will use them in the future

I bought the car 2nd hand and it didn't come with the manual.

Defiantly not getting under the car with the factory jack. I was only using it to lift the car to get the stands under.

If you look under your car you will see the jack points, they are the roundish flat sections of exposed metal about 15cm across, easy to spot cos pretty much everything else is covered with plastic. They will probably have black scuff marks on them already from being on a hoist. I just found a pic for you...

Hi, new member, and just bought VEII Calais V 6.0 AFM, it has standard exhaust.
I was thinking of a Varex, as I do need it quiet sometimes.
Will changing the rear mufflers only give me the nice V8 rumble?

    No..
From an experience in a mates car who changed the rear mufflers to hot dogs..

It will destroy your ear drums at highway speeds on slight uphill grades..

J pipes won't drone or destroy your ear drums. They do give a great note and you only need to replace your rear mufflers. I have a set for sale, pm me if interested. But if you want it to be quiet, you have to drive it that way, regardless of what exhaust upgrade you do.
