FE3 was introduced on the original VE Redline sedan.
Was introduced to sport wagons and utes on the second generation VE Redlines.

I have seen others pleasantly surprised at the price of genuine suspension parts from Holden dealers.

Give them a call first before you discard them altogether.

You were right. The genuine FE3 springs are only $450 for all four. The FE2 fronts are now discontinued so FE3 is the only option in any case.

are there different shocks and anything else for the VE's FE3?

I used Monroe GT Sport shocks.

VE and VF strut assemblies are the same (Other than magnetic ride) Springs are interchangeable.

Rear Kings spring part numbers likely to be the same V6 and V8. Different part numbers for front.
