We all know its a head off job and thinking about replacing can as well. Does anyone have any idea the average cost to get it done???

Probably no change from $8k, more if there is damage.

No way I can get a brand new motor for $5500.. Doing my research and it is only about 20 hours labour???

Yes the labour figure sounds about right but have you priced up all the parts and sundries that are required/recommended?

Jd 20 posted a link. All up realistically your looking at $8k. Labour alone will be close to $3k, doing cam and lifters.

A new engine is $20k so not sure who has been telling you a new engine is only $5,500? Fitting alone is $1000.

FYI I recently had a cam changed on my ls3 including some common upgrades, i.e, trunnions, springs, timing chain, lifters with guide buckets, upgraded oil pump, shaved and cnc ported heads, dynotuned, etc. cost was over 8k and this was on a lowish km motor that had no prior problems/issues.
