Yep, people seem to think getting engine work done is like $2k. Like you found its over $8k and that's just scratching the surface.

Yes the labour figure sounds about right but have you priced up all the parts and sundries that are required/recommended?
Yes you can get cam packages, cam and new timing chain $1500, then lifters avg price$300

Well, that's in a perfect world. If you need cam bearings it will be engine out and pretty much full tear down. If you have a failed lifter you will be lucky if the bill is under $15k. Might be lucky and cam lobe hasn't been wiped. It will depend on how long it was run after lifter failed.

Where are you located? I thought you must have had it diagnosed if you said a lifter has failed?

No way I can get a brand new motor for $5500.. Doing my research and it is only about 20 hours labour???
You could probably get a reco long motor for $5500 (the one below is a LS3 but L76 should be comparable). Theres a butt ton of work to transfer all the accessories over though so unless your going to do all that yourself there will be at least a couple of grand in labour charges on top.

No way your getting a brand new one for that price and if you can I’m sure everyone here would appreciate you telling us where to get them from as most people would jump at it.

The link I posted for Oztrack was labour inclusive so that’s word from a “mechanic”. Like I said though if there’s any other damage that would be extra of course.

Got a link to that that? Because a reco V6 is more than that. If you have someone who does a full reco for $5.5k on an LS people will be interested because it's nearly $20k for a crate engine. It's normally around $15k for a reco LS.

^^^. Reco LS3 for $6k. You’ve got to provide a swapsie of course. Or they can rebuild your engine.
