Does anyone else find the rear suspension bounces over the slightest undulation - and its not just my car, every similar VE model I've ever followed does the same. The shocks aren't shot, they just feel under damped to me. I'm not looking to stiffen or lower the suspension, I just want it setup properley and in my opinion Holden dropped the ball with this one.
So what are you looking to do? Your cars OEM spec and you dont want to stiffen it up but you are complaining about a bounce? It's gonna need stiffer shocks OR spring to stop the bouncing
I thought the springs determined the stiffness of the suspension and the shocks control the rebound ? So I was just looking for advice on alternative shocks to achieve that. When you look at most cars, after the compression of a bump, they have one rebound and then settle back to the neutral position whereas the VE's seem to have about 3 oscillations before recovering - looks and feels ridiculous.
So your complaint is about the factory shocks, which you want to replace. Billstien and KYB are a pretty common choice with VE owners but I believe the Billstiens have a damper adjustable model. My advice would be to contact the site sponser GSL Rallyspot ( GSL RallySport ) and ask them what they normally do. Personally I think the VEs are fat (heavy) and the factory setup is super soft, even the Kings springs are too soft. A stiffer spring will stop the bounce on compression and a stiffer shock with controll the rebound stopping that 2nd and 3rd bounce.
And its not just me..... see comment at the bottom of page 1 of this thread http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/ve-holden-commodore-2006-2013/167317-bilstein-shocks.html
I Agree with you mate. The soft ride is design for comfort to the point of unwanted/unnessarcy bounce. HSVs don't behave like this but I know they have stiffer spring and shocks. Those Bilstiens were quite pricey tho. Maybe contact a HSV dealer for some replacement HSV spec Monroes?? Just another option
Thanks for the tips. I'll look into it once I've paid for my replacement timing chains  I know its an Aussie car but really, did the suspension engineers need to take their inspiration from the kangaroo ?
