Im looking at replacing my VY Berlina for a VE SV6 S2 2010 model. Does anyone know of inherent problems or any issues I should look for with this model? How are they for fuel economy and reliability? I test drove one and was really happy with it but Im keen to know of any pitfalls that may be associated with this car in the long term.

    Thx

As far as I know the only difference an SV6 has from a normal VE is the kit, and it has the 3.5L SIDI instead of the 3.0L.

As for long term problems, it's a Holden mate unfortunately you're not getting the quality you would get from a Merc or BMW, but if you take care of it and keep up to date with the services I don't see why it would have any major problems.

Check this link out, heaps of info available:

    07' VE SV6 Ute
I've got an '07 ute and love it! I know some people have had issues with there's, but the only problems I've had with mine have been my own doing.
My Fuel economy seems to go out the window due to my heavy right foot, but on the highway it's fantastic (compared to my shitty old vl)

At the end of the day it's your money and decision (just be prepared to cop all the crap that comes with owing "just a v6") :p

probably more iq software issues rather anything else on the car, but with the latest software it has fixed all the issues.

Alot of the bugs have been iron out with the new LFX engine. You only have to worry about changing the filter and oil every 5-7.5k, as these engines are definitely don't tolerate very well any oil/scum built up (much like their alloytec cousins etc)

    Otherwise enjoy :)

I have on 07 SV6 and I love it. Get much better fuel economy out of it compared to my old vt (just did a trip to wagga wagga from Canberra and back in under half a tank). as far as problems go, as long as you take care of it and keep up with services etc, I can't see any major issues coming up.

    Hi MACE crew,

What models did the LFX engine come out on? What are the issues with non LFX engines?

    Cheers

    2011 ve sidi ute "wildfire"
I have a 2011 series 2 sv6 ute, wildfire in color, I love it. I have owned several ss utes before and will again but for a 6 they go well, people will bag me but I have a x/force 2 1/4 and it sounds decent, each to there own. I am about to have second service, done about 12,000 k's and have had no issues at all. More mods will come in the future, cheers
    Mick

Series II VE. The earlier ones can suffer from chain stretch and lack of oil/filter changes, mainly pre MY08. Bare in mind that these engines are related to the alloytec which have been out late 04 so they've had a fair amount of time to iron out these engines.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Missus has owned an 07 for the last 4 months and it has never skipped a beat, doesn't use oil etc.. Pretty low K's for an earlier model too, 88k.. Very fuel efficient around town and pretty much the same interior as my ss (when it was stock).. We bought it cos I was thinking about selling the toy but never did so the sv6 is up for grabs now ;) Sad to see her go..

    2013 MY12.5 SV6Z + 2016 MY16 SV6, both manuals
I have bought two so far, an MY09 SV6 Manual and now a Series II MY11 SV6 Manual. I was really happy with the MY09, and was not in the market to upgrade when a friend bought a Series II and gave me a drive. Managed to get a great deal in the end of financial year sales last year, and jumped at the chance.

I expect that you would be happy with any, but I'd recommend that you go the Series II.
