I am pretty certain that the tensioner pulley on my son's 2006 VE V6 is squeaking and would appreciate advice on confirming if that is the source.

According to the Gregory's manual to replace the pulley I have to do the following:

If I just need to change over the pulley and not the tensioner, is there a simpler way of doing it?

Follow these instructions for the Alloytec:

I had a squeaking noise too on my VE. After I took off both pulleys, I figured out the culprit was the idler pulley and not the tensioner one. Anyway, I replaced both of them + the belt... No more squeaking and no more whining when the AC is on.

That's the power steering pump setup. All you need to do is remove the bolts that you can access though the holes in the steering pump pulling, give it a tap and it slides down to the side.
You can then access that tensioner bolt.
