Nope - same engines, different mappings though. New 6 speed auto for V8s but same transmission other than that.

The indicator and wiper stalks are identical to VZ.

Arent there like 30 changes to the engine? It was on the Drive.com.au numbers game thing. And the auto has been revamped, thats why the shifts etc. seem better in the VE despite still using the 4 speeder.

While there have been changes it's still the same auto and motor but they may have a few modified parts, or different mapping in the control units. This happens with different series and well as model changes. It's just refinement as well as increasing reliability.

As most of the preliminary design was completed before the launch of the VY and VZ maybe it was these models that were "morphed" into looking similar to what was to come (the VE) i.e. tail lights etc so that the transition would be smooth. Just a different way of looking at it.

Cheers

It makes sense for holden to do a transition because they know that ppl like the vy and vz so if they keep some design ques then they are garunteed at least some fans of the car.
Most car companies do this and play it safe and some companies are more inclined to make something totally different everytime.
A good exaple of a rough transition would be the au falcon.
Had ford made the au similar in some respects to the outgoing model, the car may have been accepted a bit better but it was too much of a radical change for fans to take in (and the rest of the general public).
Take a look at the BMW 3 series ad on atm it has the transition from the first one to the current model and you can see very clearly that each new model carried over a few bits of styling to the next and this is the same as what holden has done.
