What do you mean buy “new”; do you mean it is an unused new of the shelf auto or a reconditioned auto or a low kilometre used auto?

Did flush the pipes and trans cooler and torque converter? Sure you put trans fluid in it after the install (takes lots of fluid if TC dry).

See the following for common 4L60E auto issues

Oh, and it may be worth also checking this page ;)

Unplug the big plug on the transmission and test drive, this will put the transmission into limp home mode which will give you 3rd gear starts, if you have this the most likely cause is the shift solenoid A.

Did you engage/slot the converter in to the pump before the installation?
