Why are the VE 18inch tyre sidewalls 45 series? All holden 18inch wheels in the past have had 40 series (235/40/18). Its the 17inch that usually has the 45 (235/45/17). Maybe they thought the ride would be too harsh??

It all comes back to the Omega I think.

The overall rolling diameter has been increased. Partly because the base rim on the base commodore (Omega) is now an inch larger and I guess they increased the tyre size for increased ride quality as you said, but it also makes it easier and possible for larger rims, such as the optional 20" rims on the SS.
