Here is a modification that i have done to give me MORE storage in my ute.
I discovered the idea after seeing fuel systems fitted to this area, so i thought why not!!
I use it to store my tie down straps and camp chairs.

Remove the tub liner.. easy enough.

This is what it revealed, a fibreglass cover. This covers the area where the rear seat would be in a sedan.

I cut a hole in the lid, then measured and cut the tub liner 40mm bigger all the way around.

With everything covered in carpet, it was reinstalled. The drains were also extended to stop the water flowing into the storage area.
The sides were also sealed up to make it water tight.

With everything back together its hardly noticeable.

Great idea mate. Well done. Pity Holden didnt think of that. And as Sabbath said, very good quality of work.

Yep, did this to sneak alcohol into a festival! it was perfect, the same spot exists on a vz as well.

Adding on that we didn't cut the hole in the liner, only half screwed it back in so it wasn't an absolute pain in the ass to get out again!

It's been like this for over 12 months now, water does not get in lol, I always have my tonneau cover anyway.
I extended the roof drains so they do not flow into the tray anymore.
Also there are 2 small drain holes on either side beneath the carpet, should water ever get in.

Yes and No... A similar panel is there but it houses the fuel tank. There is very little usable space.
