Need some quick answers for this install as im going to the shop tommorow to discuss. I am thinking of getting kicker cs component speakers and a kicker 2 channel amp to run it. Price is $489 which includes fitting. Also where do people mount amps in utes??
You say 'also' but only asked one question??? I have 2 amps and a sound processor mounted on the floor, under the seats. just velcro'd to the carpet. Never had an issue.
sorry mate first question was meant to be is that price reasonable? and thanks that amp under the seat sounds good and takes no room
Kicker KX200.2 2 Channel Car Amplifier - ($198.85)RYDA Car Audio http://www.ryda.com.au:80/Kicker-CSS65-6-5-300w-Car-Speakers-p/css65.htm=]Kicker CSS65 6.5" Car Speakers - ($154.85)RYDA Car Audio[/url] Is this what you are getting? If so, sure the price is great for fully installed. ~ $140 for install, fuse and wiring. i assume your installer is going to run ALL new speaker wire and solder/heat shrink all connections?
Yeah they are the right speakers but its this amp KICKER | DX125.2 Amplifier Yeah think they are doing new wires as the is a wiring kit included in the price
That amp is only 2 x 30w at 4 ohm and the speakers are rated 100w 4ohm. Either consider lower rated speakers ie Orion Cobalt CO652 Car Speakers - ($98.85)RYDA Car Audio or Pioneer TS-G1605C 6" Car Component Speaker Package | 6" Car Speakers | ($108.85)RYDA Car Audio Or higher power amp ie HiFonics BRE100.2 | 2 CH Car Amplifier | ($118.85)RYDA Audio (nb: I'm not specifically recommending the above brands, just pointing out spec's on an already mentioned website)
i just looked it says PRODUCT DESCRIPTION DXA125.2 2x60-Watt Two-Channel Full-Range Amplifier * also the car audio place said it will have plenty of power for the speakers
Those speakers will only be receiving 30watts because they're 4ohm. Might as well wire them up to the factory unit... I'd get a more powerful amp.
I prefer amplifiers to have at least an equal rms rating as the speakers they'll be powering. Ideally higher. Underpowering a speaker will cause 'clipping' at higher volumes which has a much worse effect than overpowering a speaker. You can always lower the gain on a larger amp too so you won't be overpowering the speakers to the point of damaging them. That amp you've got will be considerably better than a headunit, but a properly matched amp will allow the speakers to perform to their full potential. They'll even sound better at lower volumes.
not answer what amp you should get but a quick google search shows Kicker appear to only have three 2 channel amps in their current range: (KICKER | Amplifiers) - DX125.2 - 2 x 30w at 4ohm - KX200.2 - 2 x 50w at 4 ohm - IQ500.2 - 2 x 125w at 4 ohm you are getting 4ohm speakers that handle 100w, you need as close to that a possible (either higher or lower) to get the most of this. nb: the IQ500.2 is going to close closer to double than your current budget... have you paid any money / deposit to this store yet? does this store sell any other brands besides Kicker? did they recommend any other packages? maybe see if they're got a good combo in the 50-80w (being both speakers and amp)?
i have already paid a deposit of $250. i would like to stick to those speakers and the store said this combo best matched my budget and said the amp is well suited to the speakers so i just agreed assuming he knew best.
Not the end of the world mate, the amp is really easy to change once all the wiring's there. That's providing that the wiring is adequate for a higher powered amp. Make sure they use at least 8 gauge wire for the amp. If they aren't, do what it takes to get your money back from them and find someone else to do the install. From what you've told us already, it doesn't sound like they really know what they're doing.
Just get them to switch the amp for a more powerful one. Better than paying for that weak one now then getting another.
Yeah they are using 8 gauge wiring kit to do it all so that will be right might just tell them to use a better amp. will this one cut it or should i go 4 channel? KICKER | KX200.2 Amplifier;
Does it have to be Kicker? That 2 channel amp outputs 100w @ 2ohm to each channel and 200w @ 4ohm bridged. Look for something that puts out around 100w @ 4ohm. I'd get something like this Rockford Fosgate R300-X4 Amplifier - ($198.85)RYDA Car Audio. Bridge the channels and get 150w @ 4ohm.
Or this Kenwood KAC-PS647 4 Channel Car Amplifier | Car Amplifiers | ($148.85)RYDA Car Audio which I assume would be 130w @ 4ohm bridged.
I dont really get this 2ohm 4ohm stuff and how the wattages change but i am messaging my installer and says they have got a few more powerful amps in stock so what wattage and ohm am i specifically after?
