Hey guys,

Just trying to get a straight answer here.

Does the ve/wm get its speed signal from the wheel sensors or the trans? Or both?

This is for a wm, ly7 v6 and 5l40e trans

Looking to install 3.9 diff gears.. so in older cars that means the speedo will be way out, and therefor the trans will shift wierd, causing drivability issues, therfor requring a speedo correction kit to resolve.

But how do these modern cars work?

Cheers.

@07GTS knows all about this. You don't use a corrector box in a VE. Corrector boxes are VS and earlier.

You sort it in the tune on a VE. Best speak to a tuner.

yea if ur auto then the sensor is within the trans if not external, if the settings are there a simple diff ratio value change in the tune will fix it, not sure how far they go with the v6 tunes so u will have to ask a tuner to see if its adjustable, or sometimes a good scantool may be able to do the PPK but that is sometimes just for the speedo where u want the trans speed correct also so it dosnt affect the shifts

Do you think this is something an amateur mail-order tuner can handle?

As in, does just ppk settings need changing, or is it way more complicated than that?

I ask, as my nearest tuner is probably 200km+ away and don't want to cause any driveline damage by not having the speedo (and therefor the trans) correct

I wouldn't risk it. I'd speak to your tuner and see what options he comes up with. Plenty of horror stories about mail order tunes.
