Transmission been serviced recently?

What about the battery? Has that been replaced/disconnected recently?

2000 rpm at 60 k is very high. At those revs I would expect you to be doing about 100 k.
You don't say what revs your car is doing now. If nothing else has changed you either have
a faulty speedo or rev counter. Best bet would be to get an auto sparky to check it out.
