I live in Queensland, and never register vehicles in other States, so I'm only familiar with this State.
Our rego cost is related to the number of engine cylinders. (stupid imo)

- we have the option to pay 6 or 12 mth but there is a surcharge of about ~$20 for the 6mth option, and we are no longer required to display the 'windscreen sticker'.

Here's the breakdown for my SV6: 12mths:

Registration fee: $475
CTP insurance: $368.60
Traffic improvement fee: $52.30

Grand Total: $895.90

For those with the V8 version:
Registration fee: $665.20
CTP insurance: $368.60
Traffic improvement fee: $52.30

Grand Total: $1086.10

What do you pay in other States?

ps
I reckon our CTP insurance is a rip off, it was supposed to be deregulated to make it more competitive but we only have the 'choice' of 4 insurers and they all charge exactly the same (obvious price fixing in my opinion)...no point shopping around when they all charge the same

I think my rego was $168 last year.

Covers some ACC (TAC) and administration cost, however there is a significant ACC content in fuel.

If it were $800 - $1000 a year people simply wouldn't pay it!

You left out one of the little gems, Nominal Defendants Fee.
Mostly unknown to those who pay rego.
what its for is for those who drive without registration/third party insurance and for those accidents where the driver of the other car cannot be identified.
Now, if you pay your rego late you are penalized, drive without it fined, and they want to bring in a new scheme but still dont and wont drop the nominal Defendants fee when they do.
Sort of like stamp duty isnt it, GST was suppose to abolish it but state governments are too greedy to let it go.

I've never seen anyone claim for CTP in any accident.

"Traffic improvement fee: $52.30" WTF is that all about in QLD? How can their be traffic improvement when half of the QLD'ers can't drive properly!

To be honest there needs a major shakeup to rego, insurance & CTP. I remember when they privatised CTP & the govt saying it'll be cheaper. That's never happened. What really needs to be done is to have a single nation drivers licence with single nation driving laws. Every state has their own rules & it shouldn't be the case.

I think QLD is fair, look at the bigger picture. We don't need to get a new green slip every year.

It is very rare that a car in NSW going for a new green slip each year gets passed on the first inspection, most places will try to stick you for something that will cost ....

I own 3 vehicles, so hurts the pocket a little bit - not as bad as $1000 a vehicle but Victoria will get there.
