    I have lost count on how much I have spent, its just a never ending money pit.

    The ones I remember are:

    1. New aircon $1700
    2. New brakes $1200
    3. New headunit $500
    4. New alarm $800
    5. Recoed starter motor - $100?
    6. New water pump - $300
    7. New fuel pump - $200

    Now it needs a new alternator, power windows need fixing and new tints.

    The VN is not a bad car as such just depends how it' been treated though it's life and what is worn out etc.

    If you buy a car that was driven from the showroom to home and stored in a air tight room for 20yeas it's gona be good.

    But there are going to be problems on a 330,000 plus car like mine

    Ticking sound is more likely to be injectors than lifters. Lifters usually make a definate clacking noise when worn or at least faulty. I worked in a mechanical workshop for many years and remember a VN V6 engine rebuild that one of the mechanics did. On initial start up the lifters clacked until the oil pressure built up then they went quiet but the injectors (which were reconditioned by a local fuel injection service at the time), ticked all the time.

    Injectors don't tick this loud. Not any that I've heard anyway. My 500,000++km injectors ticked. This you can hear driving beside the car.

    damn lifters...you know, they've actually been a little quieter lately, or maybe i'm just numb to them.

    last time my lifters got changed, duntroon car care did it, and i got my car back more ****ed than when i gave it to them, ie a sump full of coolant =P

    My S*&tbox VN... LOL

    Hmmm... where do I start??

    * Roof trim falling off
    * Windscreen wipers keep snapping
    * Grinding noise on front wheels when braking, although brakes are fine!?!?
    * Windows keep coming off tracks
    * Dodgy speedo... when travelling anything over 80km/hr it flicks from 0-speed you're travelling at constantly!??!
    * Alternator keeps stuffing up
    * Blinkers and Hazards now not working either...
    * Front floor floods during heavy rain (both passenger and drivers side)

    When do i burn this piece of shite? LOL

    The dodgy speedo will be the speed sensor on the gearbox or the voltage regulator inside the cluster with a cracked solder joint. Easy to fix if it's the solder joint.

    Hey Fellas, I got a VN Calias and I got a ticking --> squeeling noise under the bonnet, but only in gear and over 2k rpm..... I changed injectors, idle pully, power steer pump, harmonic balancer still great, water pump fine, alternator great. I do have a small crack in left header.

    Would that be my prob, cause I got nothing else to put it as.

    Sugestions plz, cause it really shiting me off :mad: (and can someone tell me how to make a new post, got me stuffed)

    VN tick under acceleration

    Hey People, I got a major prob with ticking -> squeeling under acceleration, started off small and at about 3500 rpm, now starts at bout 2k rpm, only in gear and mainly in 2nd & 3rd. :bang:

    Noise is coming for air intake side of motor, and no noise in park or neutral (even at 5k rpm) gearbox is good, and changed idle pully, power steer pump. Harmonic balancer, alternator, water pump, a/c all great. Plugs, leads, oil, and tranny fluid all been changed, head gaskets, exhaust manifolds just been changed (less then 700kms)

    Starts off as a tick, more acceleration hell of a lot more noise.

    where to start.
    the trans is shot, diff whines, front passenger door lock jams, speedo sticky, tail lights flicker, idles low and rough after a run up the expressway, exhaust mounts missing, drips assorted fluids from assorted places, arseloads of negative camber at the rear. (we couldnt resist a pair of cheap as **** lower than a snakes arse pedders springs from u-pull-it) * lucky i have access to plenty of shitty 2nd hand 15s ;) * roof lining sagged, typical commo seats recline themselves, and those ugly as sin stock calais rims.
    probly heaps more but i cant even be arsed going any further

    It can be the voltage regulator in the back of the cluster - this bloody thing is very fragile indeed. The tacho is often not the problem.
